LINES Ballet Community Programs Director, Mary Carbonara, shares exciting updates about LINES’ school programming, field trips, and the highly anticipated Family Experience on September 29 at YBCA:
As the fall semester barrels to a start, LINES’ Community Programs‘ in school and after-school residencies are back, providing dance and movement-based learning in PreK through 8th grade classrooms throughout San Francisco. We’re delighted to be partnering again with our wonderful SoMA and Tenderloin District neighbors: Bessie Carmichael Elementary School, De Marillac Academy, and the Tenderloin Boys & Girls Club. After Labor Day, our programming resumed with PreK and Kindergarten students at Malcolm X Academy, 7th and 8th graders at Aptos Middle School, AP Giannini Middle School, and James Lick Middle School, and K–2nd graders at Alta Vista Elementary.

The small yet mighty Community Programs team, along with the professional LINES Ballet company and Training Program, are looking forward to hosting field trips to the Dance Center with a variety of schools this fall. This month, on September 29, we’re especially excited to be hosting another Family Experience at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, during which families with kids four years old and up create dances together before watching LINES Ballet onstage during their company class before the Fall Season performance. It’s a highlight of our year to watch kids and their grown-ups dance together before marveling at the beautiful LINES dancers—all while imagining their own futures.

LINES Family Experience
Join us for an immersive dance workshop for families with children ages 4–12 on September 29 at 2:30pm. Guided by our very own LINES Ballet Teaching Artists, families will connect with Alonzo King’s work and philosophy while moving, grooving, and collaborating to create dances all their own. Families will also get a sneak peek of the LINES Ballet Company Dancers in rehearsal before they take the stage for the Sunday evening performance.
Family Experience ticket holders also receive 10% off tickets to LINES Ballet’s Sunday Fall Season performance (select seats only).
LINES Community Programs provide students with access to the creative process of Alonzo King LINES Ballet. Rooted in the unique HeART with LINES curriculum (emphasizing humility, empathy, artistry, ritual, and truth), LINES Community Programming benefits a child’s physical wellness and imagination through the power of discovery and collaboration.
