Session One Begins

The Summer Program is off to an energized start!

We welcomed 120 students into our studios on Monday, June 17, to kick off the program with an orientation meeting and an assortment of placement classes. During Session One, students have the delight of not only experiencing our renowned faculty in ballet, modern, and contemporary classes; they also have a variety of special teachers such as Ballet Master Arturo Fernandez and Company Members Caroline Rocher, Michael Montgomery, and Keelan Whitmore. The students also learn LINES Ballet Repertory from alumni of the Company. Our young artists are enthusiastically gearing up for a week of working with Alonzo King. With his guidance they will continue to expand and deepen their exploration of themselves and their art form, gaining insight that they can carry with them into their technique classes and rehearsals alike. Our roster of choreographers for Session One ranges from local to international, as we feature the work of Tanya Bello, Sandrine Cassini, Gregory Dawson, Maurya Kerr, Kassandra Taylor Newberry, Carmen Rozestraten, and Keelan Whitmore.

The Summer Program also provides opportunities for the students of our pre-professional programs. While many of the LINES BFA Program students have headed elsewhere for the summer, a handful of them are still around the Dance Center, gaining valuable leadership skill as chaperones and teaching assistants for the Summer Program. Inaugural class alum Katie Scherman (’10) will also be joining the Summer Program team as a choreographer for session two.
