Summer Program in Session

July marked the close of one session and the beginning of another for the LINES Ballet Summer Program.

On July 12, the 120 participants of Session One of the Summer Program took to the stage at McKenna Theater at San Francisco State University for their culminating Session One Showcase. Over 450 audience members enjoyed an evening of diverse works, rewarding the performance with a standing ovation. Afterwards, the lobby of McKenna filled with tearful good-byes and joyful congratulations as Session One participants parted ways with their faculty, chaperones, choreographers, and mentors who had affected them over their four weeks.

On July 17, 138 dancers joined us for an orientation meeting that marked the start of Session Two of the Summer Program. These students are deeply immersed in a rich curriculum that includes work with guest artists Laurel Keen (former LINES Ballet Company member) and Stephanie Powell (who will teach some of the repertory of Donald McKayle), as well of one week of ballet and workshop with Alonzo King and another week with Ballet Master Arturo Fernandez. Throughout the session, students are engaged in a creative process with one of eight choreographers. Join us for a free sneak preview of works by Sandrine Cassini, Robert Moses, and Julia Stiefel on Tuesday, August 13, at 1pm at UN Plaza! These lovely pieces will be featured in the Session Two Showcase, along with works by Mary Carbonara, Katie Faulkner, Bliss Kohlmyer, Carmen Rozestraten, and Katie Scherman.

We invite you to enjoy our final performance on Saturday, August 17, at 8:00pm at McKenna Theater at San Francisco State University; tickets are $20 general admission/$15 with student ID, and they can be purchased online here. We’ll see you there!
