This past July, Ballet Master Arturo Fernandez served as the President of the Jury for Mexico’s national ballet competition, Concurso National de Ballet Infantil y Juvenil.
During the five-day competition in Mexico City, Fernandez had the opportunity of witnessing the performances of over 200 talented students (ages 9-24) from all over Mexico; he also taught a master class to the finalists in the men’s category. He was absolutely delighted by their talent: “Honestly, from the first day I saw kids who I knew would make it to the finals, but I was even more taken with the ones that surprised us, the Jurors, by really blossoming over the course of the week. What a great experience.”
Fernandez was able to offer a scholarship to one of the young men to train with the Alonzo King LINES Ballet Training Program for two weeks this fall. Fernandez believes the experience will be invaluable to the young man’s growth as an artist and dancer.
