HeART with LINES Update!

Alonzo King LINES Ballet’s HeART with LINES program connects the philosophy and approach of Alonzo King to the everyday experience of students, youth and families in the Bay Area. Focusing on the power of discovery, collaboration and truth, HeART with LINES is an entry point into the world of dance. It provides a space for students to learn a foundation of dance concepts, experiment and improvise with movement, and develop their own ideas through the choreographic process. Students are given the opportunity to engage in creative sharing and reflection through dance, while also learning more about themselves and the world around them as young emerging artists.

Don Fisher Girls and Boys Club is HeART with LINES’ newest community partnership as of fall 2015. The dance residency brings LINES teaching artists into the clubhouse to teach concept-based dance in after-school programming for elementary students. The current spring session culminated in an annual community performance event produced by Alonzo King LINES Dance Center, HeART of Market at Mint Plaza, which took place this year on April 30th. HeART of Market gives our partnership students the opportunity to share their work in front of a live, public audience and the chance to perform alongside LINES Dominican BFA, LINES Ballet Training Program, as well as SF-based professional dance companies.

Check out Presidio Middle School students – one of our original community program partners – perform in this year’s HeART of Market. These students were guided by our fantastic Teaching Artist, (and LINES Ballet Training Program alumni) Khala Brannigan!
